Tips for taking a class for success in the U.S.

It is often true that taking a class without knowing the amount of the time that we have to spend to catch up with the class is frustrating. It is also true that many students do not know ways to find out what materials would be covered and how much work required to complete the materials in the class.

By the law, instructors are required to provide necessary information, such as how many assignments will be given in a session, how the assignments given are important, and what has to be done in order to pass a class, to the students. Because of the fact that a law requires instrucotors to provide the information and the students are able to have necessary information to estimate the amount of work required, which can be the key to success without experiencing much stress, I believe that many students should be able to succeed without wasting time, money, and being frustrated.

These are many things that I think students can do in order to estimate the work for a class.

1) At the first time when a class is held, you may receive a piece of paper that shows necessary materials given to students. The piece of a paper is called "syllabus"... The first thing that you can do is looking at the number of assignments given and calculating the the amount of time that you will have to spend for those. Make sure that you ask your instructor about the amount time may required to complete an assignment. If your school has a semester system and you know the number of assignments will be given, you can calculate how much time you will have to spend for doing assignments. For example, the total number of weeks is 20 and the number of assignments given is 20, you will have to do more than one assignment every week.

2) You can take a look at the textbook. It may give some sort of idea about what you may have to do.

3) Also calculate the total amount of time for all the classes that you are taking. Make sure that it does not exceed your limitation of concentration. If you believe that you can concentrate on studying up to 4 hours a day, make sure total amount of the time required does not exceed that.
